Urban Coffee Roaster revisited
Last year, with my friend's recommendation I went to Urban Coffee Roaster (UCR). It's a special coffee shop with a backpacker hostel Wontonmeen. I was so impressed at that time since they decorated there with the combination of old Hong Kong stuff, and there was a coffee cart in it. The owner was friendly, and the place allowed people to easily chat with each other too. UCR then renovated there and opened its second shop in Tsim Sha Tsui. I visited the first shop again afterwards, and it still surprises me a lot!
The cart has gone, and it has been replaced with a bar table with a few seats. There is also a newcomer called Book B, which is an independent bookstore selling good zines and magazines from overseas, as well as beautifully made accessories. A door separates the hostel and the coffee area but in most case customers can see inside, and they can come in especially if they need to go to the toilet. The decoration of the hostel with traditional Hong Kong elements is still maintained.
The new style doesn't completely kill the experience I had in the past completely. Chats with staff and other customers are still possible. Coffee's quality is guaranteed too! Sure you will have a great afternoon time if you come here.
In a cafe, I said a cafe should be more than a cup of coffee. Coffee is just a beginning, whereas meeting (great) people in a small place is far more important, talking about amazing coffees, talking about life, talking anything! UCR here is a place like that in my city where I am living.
