Alvin In The Room: Journal

Public housing with bright colours, Shun On Estate

I planned to visit Shun Lee Tsuen Road Lookout that afternoon, but it was disappointing as only trees and roads could be seen. What attracted me more was the public housing I saw during the bus trip.

Shun On Estate, which was designed and completed in 1970s, used to be grey and dark. But they all got repainted in 2013 with bright and vivid colours including blue and yellow. Among the four buildings, two of them have a cruciform design, and they gently slope. In other words, the lower the floor, the larger the area.

It was not the first time I came there, but I don't know why I didn't notice those special buildings before.

Shun On Estate is special. What makes it unique is not its architectural language as you can also see the similar in Tai Hing Estate, Tuen Mun; but its colours nowadays.
