In words, we say we go to B from A by train, while skipping the statement of going to the train station of A/B. In reality we couldn't deny that fact as we need to reserve time in the place, i.e. to wait for the train, get food, exchange money, send a postcard, obtain information from the tourist centre, send a message to family members before boarding, etc.

The station is more than a place for getting on and off the trains. It is a place for the ritual(s) of leaving and arriving in a city.
