Cheam and Ewell — crossing the border of Greater London

I know the place Cheam when I started travelling from Putney to Wimbledon by bus route 93, which ends North Cheam in the south. Driven by curiosity, I googled and decided to visit there.

Cheam

Cheam is a part of Sutton, which is the border of Greater London with around 5-min bus ride from Sutton Town Centre. North Cheam has the high street with basic restaurants like McDonald’s and Wetherspoons, when Cheam Village has a museum, cafe and park (Cheam Park) connecting to another much bigger park called Nonsuch Park which is located in Ewell, East Surrey.

Whitehall Historic House and Bourne Hall Museum

Whitehall Historic House and Bourne Hall Museum are local museums in Cheam and Ewell especially. The former is in a historic heritage while the latter is a library.

Whitehall Historic House in Cheam

As an architecture with more than 500 years of history, Whitehall Historic House provides a lot of valuable information about both its house and the surrounding area, and it’s worth visiting the rooms in the attic showcasing stuff in the old days!

Bourne Hall Museum in Ewell

Ewell and even Epsom can be reached by London bus route 293 and Ewell is just within 15-minute bus ride from Cheam. Bourne Hall Museum is above the library and cafe and these facilities are in Bourne Hall Park.

Like other local museums, the museum has enormous collections which tells a lot of stories about Ewell and Epsom, from the public carriage to Derby to printing press…

What I love the most, besides the curation of the museum, is that you can overview the library with its cafe from the level of the museum, but it is also what’s a shame that I can’t find a space to do an urban sketching for the amazing library, or will cause inconvenience when there are other visitors.
