Z Hotel in Bath — paying attention to details contribute to nice staying experience

During my trip to Bath in March this year (2025), I stayed in two hotels. Besides Travelodge on Sunday which had a very great price for SuperRoom, I also tried Z Hotel.

Z Hotel is also a chained hotel mainly in London with a few outside like Bath, Glasgow and Liverpool, which claims to be affordable but more premium. While I can enjoy room rates as low as £29 in Travelodge (but usually on Sunday, and the rate can reach more than £100 on some days), Z Hotel has more stable and not so expensive prices, like staying around £50 during weekdays like Monday, everything included but breakfast.

I booked the most basic and cheapest Z Inside Double. Compared to Travelodge when booking, I know it is much smaller and most importantly, the room has no windows! But do these ruin the experience?

The room was super small, but for a single person it was enough, thanks to the design which saves the space! For instance, you can put your luggage under the bed (provided that you don’t have too big suitcases); the cloth hangers are on the wall; a small table with a small chair under it; there is a long cushion along the wall so you can sit on the bed comfortably.

Similar to other hotels, Z Hotel does provide refreshments like tea and coffee but they have very good options, like decaf pure camomile tea which is good for sleeping. Yes, many hotels have caffeine free options but think about when customers spend their time mainly inside their rooms with decaf coffees which is just better than nothing. Speaking about the coffee, Z Hotel has drip coffee bag to contribute a good morning not reminding me of hardworking but just slowing down to something like tasting red wine.

With the minimalist interior, I felt like I owned a little world. Windowless room was no longer a con but a feature to escape temporarily from the outside issues. Yes we need to address problems and fix them as soon as possible, but we are humans we have to pause something first.

If you ask me to point out if there is room to improve, maybe I will say it’s the lighting — as I usually have dim warm yellow to orange lights in my room. I suggest the room has this option when they have different mood settings in their rooms — but lights are white only. If technically possible, an alarm working with lighting so that the lights can switch from dim orange colour to the brightest white at the time of alarming. So that the lights in the room can tell me it’s daytime outside and it’s time to wake up, even when I don’t have windows inside.
