A story in one picture

Why my illustrations always include scenes — context and connection

When I started sketching, I began with a small, simple, individual still object, which is always easy to do.

As my drawings skills improved, I tried to sketch bigger, more complicated objects, and even two or more with surrounding environments.

It is not only the transition from a beginner to more challenging level, but also the way of seeing the context instead of things.

The beauty of human nature is connection. We are born as an individual but it’s totally impossible to separate ourselves from everything, like, at least, we still have to live with oxygen and clean water, and inevitably have to rely on online services provided by humans when we travel solo.

All these can form to become context, which creates stories that we love.

That’s why my sketches have surrounding scenes which contribute to context I noticed.
