Why don't use Apple Reminders or todo apps in this way?

Thanks to the emergence of smartphones and productivity apps, we can easily add todo lists on our reminders app. I am no exception that I am using Apple Reminders too!

The original purpose of todo list is to remind us of not forgetting to do something. With the evolution of todo apps, they are being value-added so that it has become a productive task management.

Don't get me wrong as I am not saying it's not good. Indeed I create different lists for various tasks like blog articles I want to write, and goals I want to achieve.

Recently I am thinking: why don't we remind ourselves of taking a break, or something we find useful in our life, but we may always forget so we can get stuck?

I thus create the following two reminders:

  1. To remind me of relaxing by taking a break for a while.

  2. To remind me of prioritising my life, as what Greg McKeown said in his book Essentialism.

They will remind me in the middle of every day usually when I am busy and struggling.

The importance of these reminders is that we tend to believe great tools are useful for us to do more, without remembering that what can make us more motivated, is to be "lazy" sometimes and dependent on our mindsets.

Tools are never perfect, but nudging our (psychological) situation can be a game changer!
